Educator Supply and Demand: Each fall, the Teachers College Institute at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln conducts a survey of all Nebraska K-12 public schools to gather data relating to teacher shortage areas. The data is then summarized and communicated to educational entities throughout the state. Teach in Nebraska: The Teach in Nebraska website is a free service of the Nebraska Department of Education and provided by the Nebraska Partnership for Quality Teacher Education. This one-stop resource recruits individuals seeking education jobs and provides the opportunity for educational entities to post vacant teaching and administrative positions. Nebraska P-16 Initiative: The Nebraska Department of Education (NDE) has been an active partner in the Nebraska P-16 Initiative since its inception in 1997. Resources provided by the Nebraska Partnership for Quality Teacher Education project (funded by the Higher Education Act of 1998) and administered by the Teacher Education section have been used to support activities such as annual statewide conferences and alignment projects in Mathematics and English/Language Arts. This hyperlink takes you to the P-16 Initiative website, managed by the University of Nebraska. Transition to Teaching: A $2.4 million, five-year grant is funded through the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), commonly referred to as the No Child Left Behind Act of 2002. The Nebraska Transition to Teaching (TTT) program has created a new process and Transitional Teaching Certificate (formerly known as Alternative Certificate) for mid-career professionals and recent college graduates with baccalaureate degrees who wish to become teachers and work in high need local educational agencies (LEAs). The TTT program is housed at the University of Nebraska-Kearney.
